Although the main streets of Appleby are filled with shops, cafes and offices, there are over 150 businesses located in the town and many more in the villages in the Eden Valley. Although you may be used to going to a large supermarket for the weekly shop, it is possible to get most things in Appleby too. Save the costs of fuel and parking – and shop local!
Home cooking and locally sourced food is a feature of eating out in Appleby. Most of the cafes are open seven days a week and offer coffee, homemade scones, cakes, light snacks and hearty meals. Most of the pubs offer food during the day and the evening, and there are Chinese, Indian, pizza and fish and chip takeaways too.

The names of some of the buildings in Appleby demonstrate that the town once had many more pubs than it has now. Don’t worry though, there are still plenty of inns and pubs offering a range of beers, ales and lagers, some also offering food and accommodation.
